Stayed somewhere in Kansas last night, and now I'm typin' on my best friend's computer. She's got some papers to grade. :)
Pretty good trip, so far. Apparently the amish have started driving cars, or are else walking to Rest Areas on the freeway.
We got a little loopy as we passed through Kansas, (it's quite boring... they have a sense of humor about it. I bought a post card which I'll scan and post when I get home.) we saw eight houses all together, and Eileen said "Look! A subdivision!"
Sleep soon. Apparently I'm going to school tomorrow with Brit. We'll see how awake I am. But I guess all her students are excited to meet me. I guess I'm a little nervous about meeting a few hundred seventh & eighth graders. LOL

I stayed in a motel there, where the motel office was FULL of cats. A lot of these old motels are nice but some of them can be scary, so the trick is to ask if you can see a room before you decide whether you want to stay there. I walked into the motel office and saw cats on every flat surface, but I could not smell cat litter anywhere. I knew the room would be OK so I took it withough inspecting it first. And it was. I was tempted to request s cat for my room, just to make it more home-like. :-)
And there's a sign at the Missouri-Kansas border, on US54 I think, that says "Welcome to Kansas. This is the yellow brick road." Looked like ordinary grey asphalt to me.
And in western Kansas, out near where the grass ends, there was a farm with thousands of sculptures made from scrap metal and old car parts, some with moving parts. They were caricatures of politicians and celebrities that the creator obviously disliked. I somehow suspect that neither of us would vote this guy's way on any issue in any election, but the sculptures were still interesting to see. I was especially amused by the Bill Clinton caricature with the saxaphone for a penis.

It's hysterical to me to talk to people who really still believe that Clinton's "scandal" was a matter of public interest. It's simply not our business.

Hiya
Hey, *hugs*. Just got back from traveling myself. Glad to see you're feeling a little better about everything than when I left. You'll have to let me know what it's like out in colorado, given that I've never been there myself. Hope to get to talk to you sometime.August 19 2005, 19:39:40 UTC 6 years ago
